The conference will provide a unique opportunity for close interactions between several categories of participants:
-
LOG-IN Africa researchers. LOG-IN Africa researchers will present individual country research findings, demonstrate e-local governance products or prototypes developed and/or implemented in the frame of LOG-IN Africa project, and the LOG-IN Africa e-local governance roadmap.
-
Academia. Academic participants will present theoretical and/or practical research work which extends the understanding of e-local governance and upon which concrete solutions for governments can be built. In turn, they will learn about problems faced by governments, gain access to concrete cases, and identify opportunities to implement, deploy and adapt prototypes.
-
Government officers/policy makers. Government participants will describe concrete e-local governance initiatives, lessons learnt and challenges. In return, they will learn about the latest research results, and how such results are implemented to address the challenges they face. We expect representation from Ministries of local government or local authorities, Ministries of ICT and/or e-government units/departments and Public sector/administration reform units/departments.
-
ICT regulators. These will report on how Universal Access and Service funds have been used to implement e-local governance pilot projects. Like government participants, in return they will be exposed to LOG-IN Africa Research Network results and how these results may address the challenges they face.
-
Practitioners. Private sector firms and NGOs will demonstrate concrete e-local governance solutions for governments. In return, they will learn about the real challenges governments face and the latest research findings available for their use in crafting solutions.
In addition, there will be a round table discussion on an e-local governance roadmap with participation by experts from government agencies, industry, multilateral development agencies and academia. Alongside the conference, various industry players will have an opportunity to exhibit their products or solutions for e-local governance.
