Research Title

ICT for Local Governance: A Case Study on the Application of ICTs on Life-Event Services at the Kebeles’ of the City Government of Addis Ababa

 

Abstract

In Ethiopia, there has not been any research conducted concerning the application of ICT for local governance. As a result, much is not known about the extent of the application of ICT on local governance. In an effort to use the laid down telecommunication infrastructure for the country’s developmental programs, we have aimed at conducting a research to investigate the need for ICT intervention on local governance areas. To this end, we have targeted grass root level administration units known locally as “Kebele” as the focus of the national research project. Our focus on the Kebeles of the City Government of Addis Ababa stems from the fact that they are places where interaction between Kebele administrators and the public or residents takes place at large. The team chose Addis Ababa since it provides a number of opportunities for the successful implementation of the project. The objectives of the research are:
