The history of IDS [Institute for Development Studies], University of Nairobi, research is a statement to a commitment to generating local knowledge, and how to turn locally generated knowledge into input in the evolution of the global development agenda. The research is used in the development of policies and in actual development practice. Most of the research is rich because it is inter-disciplinary. With respect to training, IDS does considerable amount of training. It mounts short, tailor- made, sector-specific courses on demand from government, private and the NGO sectors. In addition, IDS is collaborating with the Centre for ICT in the University. This Centre is in charge of the total ICT infrastructure and services in the University. With respect to software resources, the University has a wide range of academic software, ranging from software development platforms, and specialized software for different academic purposes, office applications, etc. In addition, the University has access to over 15,000 full article electronic journals.
